Dave Nilsson

Dave is a frequent RLG contributor as a due diligence specialist. He was recently an operating partner of Banyan Ventures, an early-stage investment firm in Salt Lake City founded in 2003. Dave began with Banyan as the CEO of Bright Living—Senior Care, a Banyan portfolio company, which was sold in early 2014. ​ Dave’s work experience includes finance, management, due diligence, real estate development, production homebuilding, hospitality, education technology, senior care, and startup management.
He began his career as an investment banker in the London office of Security Pacific/Hoare Govett where he focused on capital investments in the U.K. and Italy. Then as a Vice President of Bank of America, he provided structured financing and equity placements to both public and private corporations. Next, he became a project-level partner and a principal of City-Core Development and Hospitality, a San Francisco-based integrated real estate operating and investment company focused on urban infill mixed-use properties. As Vice President of Strategic Planning & Finance at The Surland Companies, Dave provided oversight on planning, entitlements, home design, and finance for their land development and homebuilding operations. In 2006, Dave was the acting CEO who restructured, packaged, and sold the homebuilding company to Standard Pacific Corporation (NYSE: SPC) with a closing price that exceeded pro forma by 40%. Dave earned a BA in Economics from Brigham Young University and his Master’s in Business & Real Estate from the University of Southern California. He is happily married with four children.
